It's me meli

Welcome friends. So happy you made it.

“It goes by so fast, enjoy it!”

“It goes by so fast, enjoy it!”

“It goes by so fast, enjoy it!”

Everyone said this to me, and it couldn’t be more true. I blinked my eyes and somehow this 7lb 1oz 21 inch baby turned into a toddler.

The first few weeks I cried every time she had to eat. It was painful, she wouldn’t latch, and she wanted to nurse constantly. It was frustrating, but I kept at it. Now I cry when she nurses because she’s 1 and it’s time to start weaning her.

She cried A LOT. I would get so frustrated that I couldn’t get any laundry done, I couldn’t cook, I couldn’t clean, I couldn’t do anything! If I was there she wanted to nurse or be held by me. This is still partially true, but it’s so much easier now. We do laundry, cook, and clean together every day all while singing, dancing and making it fun!

She woke every 2 hours for a long time. That hasn’t improved much, but I’m adjusting as best I can to the lack of sleep in my life. (Coffee is my friend).

I could go on and on about what a difference a year makes. Every day I have to remind myself “you’re doing a good job.” Us moms are so hard on ourselves! It’s ok to get frustrated, it’s ok to cry, it’s ok to be tired, and it’s ok to not want to listen to baby shark one more time. You’re still doing a good job!

If you’re a new mom, let the laundry go, let the dishes pile up, and embrace that little baby because before you know it, that baby will be 1. It goes by so fast, enjoy it!

  1. Hi Melissa!
Indeed the time flies… I had a friend once who said “hold their hands as long as you can.” And I did. And if I may be bold enough to say, with nursing, in my experience, the baby will wean itself! They will in their own time be less interested in certain feedings, and they will drop them, until you are down to just one feeding a day, and then the whole thing comes to its own ending naturally.

  2. So very true! Madelyn will be 10 on Monday and it makes me want to cry. I’m so proud of that little girl, but it reminds me that she’s not so little anymore. She’s almost as tall as me and is so smart. Not just book smart, but about life. You are a great mom. It’s not easy and we are all doing the best we can! ❤️

  3. Oh my gosh does it ever! It really is like a flash before your eyes. I love this post, I love you! I agree with all of your words. I wish I could wean Harrison now that he’s 13 months, but I can’t. It just breaks my heart. I’m a wimp.

  4. My little girl just turned 29 and I swear it feels like yesterday we were bringing her home from the hospital. She has given us a precious granddaughter that just turned 2 years old. I watch her and see so many things that remind me of my daughter. I’m so glad you are embracing these precious moments and enjoying them. The time does fly by so quickly. Dishes and laundry are not important but these moments are…..please embrace every moment, for they are precious. Loved your post and I love following Gentle and Charlie. Happy birthday Gentle. You have a wonderful family.

  5. You made it look easy in your pictures! She is beautiful and you are an amazing mom. On the bright side….think how much easier the next one would be! Stay strong and have fun! She will be 5 before you know it and off to school!
P.S. I had never heard Baby Shark til your posts. I love it!
